He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother...

Greetings and Salutations! That’s Charlotte’s Web, if you didn’t know. I hope everyone is in the holiday spirit. General Hospital was just overflowing with old fashion soapy goodness. Heartbreak, surprise reveals and a surprise murder to wrap up the week are the things that daytime drama are made of and GH fired on all cylinders this week, in my opinion. Let’s discuss, shall we?

First up in the surprise reveal department, Cyrus and Martin are indeed brothers. I have to say, after witnessing Diane’s questioning and Sonny’s intimidation, Martin should seriously be questioning his career choice. He’s supposed to be a top-notch attorney, yet he cracked within a few minutes. Valentin made the right decision firing him. I kind of feel for Martin. He seems to be conflicted when it comes to Cyrus. He knows he’s is a bad guy but he’s looking the other way for the sake of their mother. So now we know Cyrus is Martin’s brother, and Martin’s last name is Gray. Their mother is Florence Gray who was more than likely married to Laura’s biological father. It’s pretty much a certainty that they are either Laura’s half or step siblings. The question is will that give Cyrus the same reprieve that being Anna’s son did for Peter. Peter did some horrible things when he first arrived, and his actions led to the death of our beloved Nathan West. He kept Jason hostage for five years while everyone thought he was dead, only keeping him alive so Jason would do what he couldn’t…kill his father, Cesar Fasion. Because he was Anna’s son, people chose to either forgive or overlook his misdeeds.

Cyrus orchestrated multiple assaults on Sonny’s family and business. He ordered the kidnapping of Cameron and Trina, and the presumed murder of Marcus Taggert. He kidnapped the son of the police commissioner to leverage his freedom. He’s tried twice now to kill Jason and the latest attempt caused multiple casualties. Now, I can’t think of any way for him to be redeemed after all that, but if the powers that be want a character to stick around, they’ll find a way. Will being Laura’s brother be enough to buy him the safety to stick around Port Charles?

Second on the surprise reveal list, Dr. Kim Nero had a baby after she left Port Charles. Well, it wasn’t that much of a surprise. I believe I put that theory out there in a previous post. According to the nanny, Kim knew she was pregnant before she left Port Charles, which would explain the twinkle in her eye she had during her conversation with Hayden. It is a surprise that the baby is supposedly Julian’s. I don’t believe that for a second. I knew the moment Kim slept with Franco when he thought he was Drew, that she’d end up pregnant, complicating Franco and Elizabeth’s happily ever after. I mean Kim even had the nerve to name the baby Andrew after her one true love. It’s a little twisted if you ask me. I could be wrong. She could’ve named the baby after Drew to make Julian think he wasn’t the father if he ever found out. I don’t think that’s what happened, but time will tell. Like me, Julian must have assumed that the baby was Franco’s too because he didn’t seem to ask too many more questions after he found out the baby’s name. Of course, he didn’t have time to ask more questions because the fire alarm was activated, and he had to flee the building. The look on Julian’s face told me that he knew it was more than likely Jason coming for him, so he decided to exit out the back and jump the fence to escape and ran right into the barrel of Sonny’s gun. I must admit Julian has survived longer than I thought he would. His time should’ve run out weeks ago or days ago in Port Charles time.

Well, we’ve seen it coming for a while now and this week they finally pulled the trigger. Was that in poor taste? Anyway, Sam and Jason decided to go their separate ways. Or rather, Sam decided it would be best for Jason not to come home. I’m sorry, I know Jason gave Sam the penthouse when he came back but that was his home before he ever met her. I have a problem with her telling him he can’t come back there but I digress. Do you think Sam could’ve picked a worse time to get into this? Jason was on his way out to handle business. The business of hunting down and killing her father, no less and she picked that moment to tell him the relationship isn’t working.

Don’t get me wrong. I totally agree with Sam about the dangers Jason poses to her and the children. I just feel like she could have waited until he returned from his trip to get into it. While I agree that Sam has to put the kids first, I didn’t agree with everything she said. Jason is nothing like Julian. Jason has never lied about who he is or what he does. He’d readily sacrifice himself for his family and those he loves. Julian has always been a coward if you ask me, going all the way back to when he refused to bank his bone marrow for Danny. Some viewers like to say if he had, Sonny would have killed him but so what? It was about saving his grandson’s life. Julian could have been hit by a bus and then where would the poor child have been if he relapsed? Julian proved then that his own life would always be more important than anyone else’s. Julian’s defense for planting the bomb and killing innocent people was that the bar was supposed to have been empty. Jason was only one who should have been there.  The fact that he was willing to help kill the father of his grandson and the love of his daughter’s life tells us all we need to know about Julian.

I also have to wonder why Sam didn’t have this epiphany before she turned over her children’s stock proxies to Valentin. Valentin not bailing out the hospital gave Cyrus the opening he needed to control it, which in turn gave him control of Port Charles. Yes, Sonny runs the town, but I think we can all agree he’s lost control. I’m not saying everything that’s happened is all Sam’s fault, but you know, she played a part.

I never thought I’d say this, but Sam, Alexis and Molly owe Kristina an apology. When she told Sam earlier in the year that she would never have a normal life with Jason because he would always choose Sonny and Carly, she was exactly right. It’s always been that way and it always will. He pretty much said the same thing to Sonny. I can’t entirely fault Jason. The last time he tried to get out of the business, Michael was shot in the head. It’s got to be a heavy burden to carry.

The question then becomes who Sam’s new love interest will be. A few months ago, I would’ve said Brando because there seemed to be something there. But with him working for Cyrus at the moment, that’s probably not going to happen. That doesn’t leave a lot of options. Which brings my voice joining the campaign for Drew Cain to be written back into the show. Now, I would love that to be Billy Miller. It’s not like he went back to Y and R and took back over the role of Billy Abbott, although I would not have been mad about that. I feel like he should be available. But if he isn’t, he can be re-cast. Sam can finally get the family she always wanted. Besides, I like my GH full of Quartermaines. I think Jason and Drew were on the verge of building a sibling relationship and I’d like to see that. The worst thing about Jason’s accident was that it permanently severed his relationship with A.J. and they were never able to fix it.

I was all set to complain about Dr. Kirk in this post. First, for the quick, unannounced recast. It was just like the surprise recast of Lucas, although not as jarring since Dr. Kirk is a new character. I was also going to question whether it was a good idea to have him poking around in Franco’s brain considering the conditioning and mind control he has over Dante. But it all turned out to be moot when Scott “One Punch” Baldwin came in and killed him. I don’t recall Scottie being a fighter or very gallant, but I guess you’re never too old to try something new.

Liesl was wrong to lead on Dr. Kirk just to get him to do her bidding. Especially when she knew she had no intention of returning his feelings. However, it did not give him the right to throw her down on his office floor and try to take what he wanted so his death doesn’t bother me. It does however complicate things for poor Dante. More on that later. Now that Scottie has saved Liesl’s life, it would be hilarious if she became infatuated with him. I chuckle just thinking about the two of them as a couple.

While Ned was off in Salem, getting Joey Johnson released from prison out of town on business, Monica told Tracy all about his one-night stand with Alexis. I have to question Monica’s wisdom at the moment. She’s known Tracy long enough to know that whatever she tries to “fix things” will only make things worse. You know, like putting a drunk Alexis behind the wheel of a car. Oh Miss Tracy, what are you doing? Spoilers suggest that whatever Tracy’s plan is fails which means the secret is bound come out sooner than later. Let’s just hope it doesn’t take as long as it did for everyone to find out the truth about Wiley.

Miscellaneous

2020 has been a year that brought us things we have never seen before. It has become an unforgettable year that reinforced the creed, “expect the unexpected.” I still was not prepared to Elizabeth Webber and Samantha McCall sit down and have a heartwarming, supportive chat…about Jason Morgan, of all things.

If Alexis doesn’t want to be bothered by people who know her when she’s out drinking, maybe she shouldn’t be out drinking in places owned by people who know her.

Finn is an accomplished, well known medical professional. Anna is the former police commissioner and WSB superspy agent. Yet, they can’t seem to bring themselves to tell Maxie they don’t want a double wedding. Really? It doesn’t really matter because I suspect that someone is going to crash that wedding and reveal some serious truths about Peter. Who that someone will be is unclear at the moment. It could be Liesl. It could be Spinelli. It could be Alex, because again, I don’t believe she’s dead. Soap opera weddings rarely go off without a hitch and when they do, the couple will walk into their honeymoon suite and find a dead body. Happy belated anniversary, Curtis and Jordan.

If Jason isn’t willing to walk away from the business for Sam and the kids and Drew was, does that mean Drew loved Sam more than Jason did?

Scott saying it was a small blade and asking if Dr. Kirk was ok was just ludicrous. Yes, it was a small blade, but it was plunged into his heart! No, he’s not ok!

Julian, I just don’t understand you. You’re on the run for your life and you haven’t even left the state yet. Why stop by to say goodbye to Kim? As far as we know, you haven’t had any contact with her since she slapped the taste out of your mouth and then left town when a bizzarro version of the love of her life decided to stay behind and remove his memories.

I thought Ava and Nikolas would get at least a month of wedded bliss, but Ryan is waking up already.

I appreciate the talk Olivia and Dante had about Rocco, but I felt like Laura should have been a part of that conversation. I know she’s busy but she’s Rocco’s grandmother too and Lulu’s mom. She should have say in his schedule too.

How does Cameron know his mother’s login? How did he get her laptop? I’ll give Elizabeth a pass because Franco just had brain surgery. I just hope this doesn’t come back to bite her. Something tells me The Britch is just itching to stick it to Nurse Webber. See what I did, there?

If Julian’s not supposed to know the baby is his, why did the nanny let him in to find out about the baby at all? I feel like the whole purpose of this scene was to set up Dr. Nero’s return.

It’s been a while so I forgot how vicious Laura can be when her family is threatened or hurt. She is a mama bear with an injured cub. Cyrus better watch it. He really could be hit by a stray bullet. And I’m not sure she’d spend a second in lock up. Hell, she might win a re-election by a landslide.

Jordan can’t control Cyrus. She didn’t know Taggert was back in town so that means she can’t control the faked death. She was out of town when The Floating Rib exploded. How did she get the job of police commissioner? I hate to say this about her because she’s a black woman, but sister needs to be relieved of her post immediately.

When Sam cried to Jason, “I finally get it,” about the dangers of his lifestyle I had to chuckle. She didn’t get it when Manny shot her?

Is it just me or is Dominic Zamprogna giving anyone else young Al Pacino in Serpico vibes? I think I like it.

Well, I think that’s all I’ve got for now.

Feel free to leave me a comment.

Until next time!
