In My Daughter's Name

Greetings fellow soap fans! I know. I know. I disappeared again. I don’t really have a good excuse. I have been watching the soaps the entire time, I can assure you. Maybe that’s one of the reasons, I haven’t posted. I never want to be one to talk negatively about my soaps. I don’t want to bash the writing or the acting for that matter. So, I’ll just say I don’t personally care for where I see some of the storylines heading. And that’s not just on GH, that’s on all four daytime dramas. Well, maybe not so much Days but the rest of them you bet ya.   I could talk about the ridiculousness of B and B’s Zoe, or Vinny suddenly becoming an evil genius who can read a lab result, much less change one. I could speak on my opinion of the firing of Donny Boaz which has led to an absurd sperm donor/surrogacy story playing out on Y and R.   I could get really snotty about the current characterization of Sally Spectra as some gold-digging schemer when Summer was the one who went o...

He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother...

Greetings and Salutations! That’s Charlotte’s Web, if you didn’t know. I hope everyone is in the holiday spirit. General Hospital was just overflowing with old fashion soapy goodness. Heartbreak, surprise reveals and a surprise murder to wrap up the week are the things that daytime drama are made of and GH fired on all cylinders this week, in my opinion. Let’s discuss, shall we? First up in the surprise reveal department, Cyrus and Martin are indeed brothers. I have to say, after witnessing Diane’s questioning and Sonny’s intimidation, Martin should seriously be questioning his career choice. He’s supposed to be a top-notch attorney, yet he cracked within a few minutes. Valentin made the right decision firing him. I kind of feel for Martin. He seems to be conflicted when it comes to Cyrus. He knows he’s is a bad guy but he’s looking the other way for the sake of their mother. So now we know Cyrus is Martin’s brother, and Martin’s last name is Gray. Their mother is Florence Gray...

A Rainy Night In Port Charles

Greetings fellow soap lovers! I have some thoughts on this past week of our beloved General Hospital.   There’s an old saying, or song, or both that says, “only the good die young”. Good men like Detective Nathan West protecting his family and the citizens of Port Charles is gunned down while trying to save his pregnant wife. Dustin Phillips, the ride share driving English teacher who helped guide teenagers through angst and grief dies after an explosion while trying to propose to the woman he loves. Yet men like Julian Jerome and Cyrus Renault live to fight another day. I’d compare it to the hundreds of thousand people who have fallen to Covid-19 and a certain elected public official who’s still whining and complaining about non-existent election fraud, but I don’t want to politicize things, so let’s move on.   On a rainy night in Port Charles, Ava Jerome Cassadine made the choice to stand by her husband and against her brother. It had to be a brutal decision. ...

November Rain

Greetings! As the old song goes, “I guess you wonder where I’ve been…” or probably not but that felt good.  As you can probably guess, consistency isn’t my strong suit. With my job, I really didn’t have the time or the energy I needed to work on this blog. I barely had the time and energy to keep up with my soaps. Then in March when Covid-19 shut down the world, I was sent home to work and suddenly had a lot of time to write about soaps. Once, I got my bearings and decided to devote time each day to share my thoughts, soaps stopped filming and then ran out of new episodes. All I can say is thank God for Days Of Our Lives and their advanced shooting schedule. Otherwise, I would have had nothing but throwback episodes to occupy me during quarantine. Not that I didn’t enjoy them.  Watching old episodes of The Young and the Restless reminded me of why I love soap operas. There was nothing better than Y and R in the 90s.  Side note, GH, if Y and R could give me a week of the W...

The Last Soap Fan

Greetings! Ok, so I'm probably not the very last soap fan but I find we are a dying breed. I have been watching daytime drama most of my life...literally. As a toddler, my mother worked and I stayed with my grandmother during the day.  One day when my mother came to pick me up, I asked her if she wanted to know what happened that day on the "Young and the Westless." I started daycare not too long after that.  But alas! It was not enough to quell my affinity for this genre. Holidays, summer vacations, sick and snow days were always an opportunity for me to check in with the citizens of my favorite fictional towns. Most kids my age did the same. They too had spent time in the care of older women who tuned in daily to at least one of the many daytime dramas that aired in the 70s, 80s and 90s.  Maybe that's one of the reasons I'm drawn to it, because of the longevity. Most of my friends outgrew soaps in their teens or early twenties. I...
